Limited-Time NHS MenB Vaccination Programme for Young People
Could you be eligible for a free MenB vaccine?
The NHS has launched a time-limited MenB (meningococcal B) vaccination programme to help protect young people who are at increased risk of meningococcal B disease.
MenB disease is uncommon, but it can become serious very quickly, causing meningitis (swelling of the lining of the brain and spinal cord) and sepsis (blood poisoning). These illnesses can lead to life-changing complications and, in some cases, can be life-threatening.
The MenB vaccine offers protection against most strains of meningococcal B bacteria that cause disease in the UK and is the safest and most effective way to reduce your risk. Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you:
- were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008, or
- were born on or after 21 July 2001, are under 25, and are starting university for the first time in autumn 2026, or starting at an eligible residential further education college for the first time.
How do I get vaccinated?
This is an NHS national programme, with vaccinations being delivered through participating community pharmacies.
If you’re eligible:
- Year 13 young people will be invited to book their vaccination.
- First-time university and eligible further education students under 25 can self-refer by finding a participating pharmacy.
You’ll need two doses for the best protection, so it’s important to book your first appointment as early as possible. First doses are available until 31 December 2026, with second doses available until 31 March 2027.
